QR Codes for Orders: Setup and Placement

How to create a QR code for your Telegram or Max bot, place it on tables, packaging and signage — and receive orders without a cashier.

Why use a QR code

A QR code is the fastest way to bring a customer to your Telegram or Max bot. The customer points their phone camera → the messenger opens → the mini app with your menu appears instantly. No internet searches, no manual links.

  • Table in a coffee shop → customer orders immediately without a cashier
  • Food packaging → repeat order in one scan
  • Storefront or door → a passerby becomes a subscriber
  • Flyer in the area → offline traffic to online

How to get your bot link

Telegram

The Telegram bot link looks like https://t.me/your_bot_name. Find the bot name in BotFather settings — the @username field.

To open the mini app directly (rather than just the bot chat), make sure the Menu Button is configured in BotFather with your store URL.

Max

The Max bot link looks like https://max.ru/your_bot_id. Find it in your bot settings on dev.max.ru.

How to generate a QR code

  1. 1

    Copy your bot link

    e.g. https://t.me/mycoffee_bot
  2. 2

    Open a QR code generator

Use any free service: qr-code-generator.com, qrcode-monkey.com or Canva's built-in tool. Paste the link, choose PNG or SVG format (SVG is better for print).
  3. 3

    Customise the design

Add a logo in the centre, pick a colour matching your brand. Make sure there is enough contrast — dark QR on a light background.
  4. 4

    Download and test

Always test the QR code with a phone camera before printing. Print a test on plain paper and make sure it scans from 20–30 cm away.

Where to place QR codes

  • Table tents — print a double-sided A6 card, place on every table
  • Counter / till — sticker or frame next to the payment terminal
  • Packaging — label on the box or bag for repeat orders
  • Storefront / door — exterior sticker to attract passersby
  • Menus and flyers — QR in the corner of a printed menu
  • Business cards — QR on the back for couriers and staff

Minimum print size — 2×2 cm. Smaller than that most cameras cannot read.

Tracking sources with UTM

If you want to know where customers come from (table, flyer or storefront), add a start parameter to the Telegram bot link:

https://t.me/mycoffee_bot?start=table — table
https://t.me/mycoffee_bot?start=flyer — flyer
https://t.me/mycoffee_bot?start=window — storefront

These tags show up in Telegram analytics. You'll see which placement drives the most orders.

Create a separate QR code for each source — it takes 5 minutes and gives you a month's worth of data.
